When are Horizon Summer Camps? 

Horizon summer camps operate from mid June to August each summer.

What is included in a Horizon English Language Programme?

Our standard programmes include:

  • Full board residential language and activity programmes for 2/3/4 weeks
  • Home Stay options available in some centres
  • 15 Hours of English per week
  • 2 Excursions per week: 1 half-day & 1 full-day
  • Multi-activity programmes & Specialist Activity programmes
  • Exciting Evening entertainment programme

Where are Horizon Summer Camps?

Horizon uses excellent venues which include some of Ireland’s premier boarding schools, a residential 3rd level college and Horizon’s own dedicated centre

What facilities are in Horizon venues?

All venues have excellent amenities including sports fields, swimming pools [Columbas], indoor sports halls, concert halls, TV rooms and computer rooms.

Do I need a work permit?

If you are from a citizen from an EU country you will need a work permit. Due to the seasonal nature of the positions Horizon is not in a position to assist applicants to secure a work permit.

Do I need experience?

Yes, you do need to have some experience or qualifications. Instructors should have some instructing or coaching experience or qualifications. Group Leaders should have experience or qualifications in childcare or teaching. Teachers must hold an ACELS recognised TEFL certificate and Horizon welcomes applications from newly qualified teachers.

What happens when Horizon have received my application?

Horizon will contact all applicants within two weeks to commence the application process.

Does Horizon complete Garda Vetting?

Yes, Horizon completes Garda Vetting for all applicants resident in the Republic of Ireland. Unfortunately Horizon cannot complete Garda Vetting for applicants applying from outside of the Republic of Ireland who must supply details of police clearance from their own country.

Are all positions residential?

All Camp Directors, Assistant Director of Studies, Activity Managers and Administrators are residential positions. Most Instructors and Group Leader positions are residential. TEFL teacher positions have both residential and non-residential options available.

Does everyone have to attend induction training days?

Yes, all staff members complete two days of training before camp commencement.

Do we get time off?

Yes, weekly schedules and rotas are posted in the Staff Room each week with details of all scheduled time off. Summer camp hours are irregular and can vary. Days off can be during the week or weekends as summer camps run for seven days.

Is full board available?

Yes, full-board [meals and accommodation] is available in all summer camps.
Menus are devised to be varied and nutritious. All dietary requirements such as vegetarian, celiac and allergies can be catered for.

Where do staff sleep?

Bedrooms are individual and in dormitories divided into male and female zones. Bathroom and shower facilities are also divided into male and female zones with a ratio of 1:7
Bed linen is provided in all centres and is changed at least once each week. Staff are required to bring their own towels.

Are there laundry facilities for staff?

Yes, Horizon provides a weekly laundry service at a nominal cost.

Is Wi-Fi available?

Yes, Wi-Fi is available in all Horizon centres. It is advised not to bring expensive laptops.

Does Horizon pay travel costs?

No, staff must pay their own travel costs.
